MEME REFERENCE

Dr Evil One Million

Use when a sum is presented as astonishingly large even though the speaker's sense of its value is dated, naive, or comically inflated.

What it expresses

An amount receives villainous grandeur disproportionate to its actual scale.

Example

A manager announces a one-dollar monthly raise as though it will transform morale, and the team answers with this.

When not to use it

A fundraiser truly reaches a record-setting amount for its field; emphasizing the total need not imply outdated valuation.
