What it expresses: An impersonal threat repeatedly claims members while the survivors wait to see who is chosen next.
Example: After a bug reaches a different service every day, engineers label the claw 'the incident' and the prizes with team names.
When not to use it: A transparent rotation assigns routine duties fairly; random ominous victim selection would mischaracterize the process.
