# Rick and Carl — Meme Lab

Use Rick and Carl when an authority figure has to explain painful reality to someone overwhelmed by it.

- What it expresses: Hard truth: the father shouting an urgent explanation at his overwhelmed son represents a moment where an authority figure has to explain painful reality to someone overwhelmed by it.
- Example: For example, the lead explains that restoring the backup will erase today’s work; the visual analogy is the father shouting an urgent explanation at his overwhelmed son, signaling that an authority figure has to explain painful reality to someone overwhelmed by it.
- When not to use it: Avoid when both people already understand and accept the news; the father shouting an urgent explanation at his overwhelmed son would incorrectly signal that an authority figure has to explain painful reality to someone overwhelmed by it.
