# 1984 — Meme Lab

Use ironically when someone treats a minor rule, moderation decision, or inconvenience as Orwellian authoritarian control.

- What it expresses: A small restriction is hyperbolically equated with totalitarian censorship or surveillance.
- Example: The server bans posting spoilers for one day, and a member replies 'literally 1984' with this image.
- When not to use it: People are discussing documented state surveillance and political repression; the reference may be literal rather than a petty overreaction.
