# Jump on Rake — Meme Lab

Use to compare an ordinary mistake with a much more elaborate way of causing the same failure to oneself.

- What it expresses: A simple self-own is escalated into spectacular, unnecessary self-sabotage.
- Example: A friend could admit they forgot a deadline but instead invents an elaborate excuse that creates three new problems; label the two approaches with this.
- When not to use it: Two options lead to genuinely different outcomes, so presenting one as merely the flashier version of the same blunder would be misleading.
